DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS (DMEP) COURSE

Course Description:

One day course including 11 Didactic lectures and 2 interactive disaster scenarios and workshop. The course will start 8am to 6pm with 2 coffee breaks and lunch break. Pre-test exam will be provided at the beginning of the course and a post-test exam will be conducted at the end of the course. Course evaluation questionnaire will be completed by candidates.

 

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the surgical problems , Injury patterns, and issues that may result from disasters.
  • Discuss the role that surgeons can play in planning for and responding to mass casualty insident and disasters especially at a hospital level.
  • Become familiar with the terms and concepts of insidents command
  • Understand the principles and challenges of disaster triage.
  • become familiar with treatment principles related to Blast injury, chemical attacks, and radiological dispersal devices
  • know the civilian and military assets available for support.

 

Learning Outcomes:

Candidates will be familiar with modern disaster response and master communications skills, elements of response, disaster planning, incident command, triage and response at the scene, disaster hospital response, recovery journey, vulnerability analysis, and response to chemical, radiological and nuclear events.

After the course, candidates will be more familiar with why disaster response fails and will recognize the importance of communication, and how to achieve a common unified language in disaster response. The message to deliver.
