Comprehensive Sterile IV Admixture, TPN. and Aseptic Compounding Training for Pharmacy Professionals
Course Description:
This program addresses identified gaps in healthcare practitioners’ knowledge, technical skills, calculation accuracy, and adherence to aseptic and quality-assurance practices related to the preparation and handling of sterile intravenous (IV) products. The program aims to strengthen practitioners’ competency and promote safe, accurate, and consistent compounding practices while reducing the risk of preparation errors, contamination, and other preventable medication-related risks.

- Course Timing: 8 AM to 3 PM.
- Delivery Mode: In-Person/Onsite (Live lectures and supervised practical sessions)
- Program Type: Theoretical lectures, demonstrations, supervised hands-on workshop, case-based learning, and competency assessment
Course Objectives:
Candidates will be able to:
- Describe the regulatory and professional requirements for sterile compounding in Saudi Arabia, including applicable institutional SOPs and recognized standards such as USP <797>.
- Explain cleanroom zoning, pressure relationships, primary engineering controls, environmental monitoring, cleaning, disinfection, and contamination-control principles.
- Demonstrate appropriate hand hygiene, garbing, aseptic behavior, and safe handling and inspection of sterile components and equipment.
- Demonstrate aseptic techniques for vial reconstitution, ampoule handling, syringe manipulation, and IV bag transfer, and identify contamination risks and appropriate corrective actions.
- Perform accurate dose, concentration, dilution, infusion-rate, electrolyte, and other relevant pharmaceutical calculations, and determine beyond-use dates using approved processes and supporting references.
- Identify physical and chemical incompatibilities and appropriate storage requirements, and apply safe preparation principles for parenteral nutrition, pediatric, neonatal, and critical-care admixtures.
- Perform final product inspection, labeling, documentation, and independent verification in accordance with approved procedures and quality-assurance requirements, including deviation management and quality improvement.
- Demonstrate required sterile-compounding competencies through objective assessment, including practical aseptic technique and competency validation using standardized checklists.
